* Keyword strategies for AI visibility

* Managing keyword limits

## How Keywords Work in FAII

Keywords serve multiple purposes:

| Purpose | How Keywords Are Used |
| -------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------ |
| **Question generation** | AIQ creates natural questions from your keywords |
| **SERP tracking** | Google rankings monitored for each keyword |
| **AI Overview monitoring** | Check if AI Overviews appear for keywords |
| **Gap analysis** | Compare your presence vs. competitors |
| **Content targeting** | Identify what content to create |

2. Click **Add Keyword**
3. Enter the keyword phrase
4. Click **Save**

### Bulk import

1. Go to **Campaign > Settings > Keywords**

2. Click **Suggested Keywords**
3. Review the suggestions
4. Click **Add** on keywords you want to track

## Keyword Types

### Recommendation keywords

> "best \[service] in \[location]"
> "who would you recommend for \[need]"

These produce the highest mention rates - directly asking AI for brand recommendations.

### Comparison keywords

> "\[service A] vs \[service B]"
> "alternative to \[brand]"

Test how AI positions you relative to competitors.

### Problem keywords

> "my \[problem], what should I do"
> "how to fix \[issue]"

Test whether AI recommends you when users describe problems you solve.

### Research keywords

> "what to look for in \[service]"
> "how does \[topic] work"

Test whether you're mentioned as a knowledge authority.

### Branded keywords

> "\[your brand] reviews"
> "is \[your brand] good"

Monitor what AI says about your brand directly.

## Keyword Strategies

### For maximum AI mentions

Focus on keywords with buying intent:

* "best \[service] for \[specific need]"
* "recommend a \[service] that \[specific feature]"
* "looking for \[service] in \[location]"

### For competitive intelligence

Track keywords where competitors appear:

* "\[competitor] alternative"
* "\[competitor] vs" (without specifying the second brand)
* Keywords from competitor websites

### For content gap identification

Track broad topic keywords:

* Industry terms and concepts
* Common questions in your space
* Topics you want to own

## Keyword Limits

| Plan         | Keywords Allowed | Across Campaigns |
| ------------ | :--------------: | :--------------: |
| Starter      |        25        |     25 total     |
| Professional |        100       |     100 total    |
| Enterprise   |       500+       |    500+ total    |

### At the limit

* You'll be notified at 80% and 100% usage
* Existing keywords continue to be monitored
* New keywords can't be added until you remove some or upgrade
* Consider removing low-performing keywords to make room

## Keyword Performance

### Viewing performance data

Each keyword shows:

| Metric                  | Description                               |
| ----------------------- | ----------------------------------------- |
| **Mention rate** | % of AI responses that mention your brand |
| **Position** | Average position when mentioned |
| **Sentiment**           | How positively you're described           |
| **Competitor mentions** | Which competitors appear |
| **Trend** | Improving or declining over time |

### Identifying top performers

Sort keywords by mention rate to find:

* Keywords where you're strongest (protect these)
* Keywords where you're weakest (content opportunities)
* Keywords with improving trends (momentum)
* Keywords with declining trends (investigate)

## Managing Keywords

### Removing keywords

1. Go to **Campaign > Settings > Keywords**
2. Click the **×** next to the keyword
3. Confirm removal

<Note>
  Removing a keyword stops all monitoring for that term. Historical data is preserved for reference but no new data will be collected.
</Note>

### Editing keywords

Keywords can't be edited (they're exact match phrases). To change a keyword:

1. Remove the old keyword
2. Add the new version

### Pausing keywords

Enterprise plans can pause keywords without removing them:

* Paused keywords don't count toward limits
* No monitoring occurs while paused
* Resume anytime to restart tracking
* Historical data preserved

## Tips

* **Quality over quantity** - 20 highly relevant keywords beat 100 generic ones
* **Think like your customer** - Use phrases actual buyers would type into AI
* **Include location** - If you serve specific areas, add location to keywords
* **Monitor and prune** - Remove keywords with consistently 0% mention rate after 4+ sessions
* **Diversify intent** - Mix recommendation, comparison, and research keywords
* **Check competitors** - What keywords do their customers search for?
