Quick Answer: FAII uses four detection layers: exact match, fuzzy match (typo tolerance), URL detection, and custom variation matching. This catches mentions even when AI platforms misspell your brand or reference your domain instead of your name.

Detection Layers

1. Exact Match

Finds your brand name exactly as entered:
  • “Four Dots” → detects “Four Dots”
  • Case-insensitive (catches “four dots” too)
  • Requires word boundaries (won’t match “Fourdotscom”)

2. Fuzzy Match

Catches common AI misspellings and formatting variations:
  • “FourDots” (no space)
  • “Four-Dots” (hyphenated)
  • “Fourdots” (lowercase merged)
  • “Four Dot” (singular)
FAII automatically generates common variations. You can also add custom patterns.

3. URL Detection

Detects when your domain is mentioned as a source: This catches cases where AI cites your website without naming your brand.

4. Variation Match

Custom patterns you define in campaign settings:
  • Abbreviations (“FD Agency”)
  • Product names (“FD Analytics”)
  • Common nicknames
  • Alternative spellings for international markets

Adding Brand Variations

1

Go to Campaign Settings

Open your campaign and navigate to Settings > Brand.
2

Find the Variations section

Below your primary brand name, you’ll see the Brand Variations field.
3

Add variations

Enter each variation on a separate line. Common patterns to add:
  • With/without spaces: “FourDots” / “Four Dots”
  • With/without punctuation: “Four-Dots” / “Four.Dots”
  • Abbreviations: “FD” (only if unique enough)
  • Full legal name: “Four Dots Digital Marketing Agency”
  • International spellings
Avoid overly generic variations. Adding “FD” might match false positives like “FD Insurance” or “FD Rates.” Only use short abbreviations if they’re uniquely associated with your brand.

False Positive Filtering

FAII automatically filters false positives using:
  • Context analysis - Is the mention about your industry?
  • Word boundary checking - “Four Dots” won’t match “twenty-four dots on the screen”
  • Confidence scoring - Low-confidence matches are flagged for review
  • Industry filtering - Mentions in unrelated contexts are excluded

Detection Accuracy

Detection TypeAccuracyCommon Misses
Exact Match99%+None (exact is exact)
Fuzzy Match95%+Very unusual misspellings
URL Detection99%+Shortened URLs
Variation MatchDepends on patternsOnly misses undefined variations

Competitor Detection

The same detection engine runs for all tracked competitors. You can add competitor brand variations too:
  • Go to Settings > Competitors
  • Click on a competitor
  • Add their known variations
This ensures accurate share-of-voice calculations even when AI platforms use different names for competitors.

Tips

  • Check your first session results for any missed mentions or false positives
  • Add variations after seeing AI responses - you’ll learn how platforms refer to your brand
  • Keep variations updated as your brand evolves
  • Don’t over-add - too many generic variations create noise
